Hospice care is a specific approach in healthcare in which the primary focus in care is shifted from just the patient to both the patient and their family. Hospice helps mitigate the situation so that families may take the time they have left with their loved ones and make the most of it.
Hospice care becomes a primary choice once the patient's doctor specifies that they are reaching the end of life, which is usually considered a 6-month or less diagnosis. Hospice gives families valuable time with those in our care and allows them to put aside some of their larger worries about their overall health and pain management.

Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to ensure access to community resources/referrals and provide patient and family counseling to discuss the challenges associated with a terminal illness.
Offer comprehensive services to address issues associated with the grief and loss of loved ones.
Support patients and their families through companionship and friendly visits.
Responsible for all patient care and collaborates with hospice team members to optimize comfort and well-being.
Assist with light housekeeping and personal hygiene. Duties include bathing, dressing, basic exercises, and feeding.
Provide emotional and spiritual counseling to patients and their families and act as a liaison between patients, families, and community clergy to coordinate services and support as needed.
Provide bedside care to patients and work with their families to maximize their quality of life throughout the hospice experience.
The discussion when considering hospice is never one that is simple or easy. In many cases, we must, as the patient, know the current understanding of their health condition.
